So what’s new in QuickBooks 2014

 QuickBooks 2014 is here..

QuickBooks 2014

QuickBooks 2014

With the minimum of fanfare the UK version of QuickBooks 2014 has arrived. With intuit pushing the cloud version of its accounting software , particularly to new users it will be interesting to see how much PR QuickBooks 2014 receives.

For QuickBooks users operating on a VAT flat rate scheme QuickBooks 2014 provides vat option settings to report VAT correctly for you.Gone are the days of creating workarounds to report Flat Rate VAT in QuickBooks.

QuickBooks 2014 lets you attach documents to records e.g. Invoices , estimates, customers, suppliers. This is a feature previously only available to desktop users with QuickBooks Enterprise. Perhaps we will see the paperless office after all.

A nice new little feature is the Income tracker. This allows you to see an overview of your estimates, sales orders, invoices and sales receipts.QuickBooks 2014 provides a new button on your icon bar (also available via Customers / Income tracker).

Other small adjustments in QuickBooks 2014 include links to Alerts & Reminders from the top right hands corner of the screen and a new print reports to fit feature.

One feature which has been on our wish list for a while is ‘copy& paste lines’ You can now right click on an entry (e.g invoice , purchase order) copy line and paste. a good time saver.

As you will note QuickBooks 2014 has a number of small advances / improvements on the 2013 version. Here’s another one. With improvements to email functionality you can now view email records for each customer.

For QuickBooks payroll users the new desktop version will make life a little easier. With the advent of RTI the days of editing & deleting payroll transactions was gone . This option was removed in QuickBooks 2013. With QuickBooks 2014 it’s back. Transactions can be amended (with restrictions) or deleted even after submission to HMRC.

Training and support

I trust the above will help if you are considering the benefits of upgrading your QuickBooks. Whilst 2014 doesn’t change the QuickBooks world overnight it does have one or two improvements and new nice to have features.

Training – the Third Way

The fascinating thing about software is that once the publisher releases a product it to you, it’s you who decides how to use it. And sometimes, the best intentions of the developers don’t quite translate into the way you want to work. You may find yourself thinking “I wish I could do this…” or “I hate the way it does that…”

So either you’ll choose to grudgingly work differently to suit the software or you might look elsewhere for a software solution that meets your needs.

But training can provide a third way. Through software training with Katara, you’ll develop a deeper understanding of best practices for bookkeeping along with tricks of the trade direct from experts who use the product every single day and are dedicated specialists in their field.

Our trainers won’t tell you that your way is wrong, but instead, using real-world examples that you’ll recognise from your day-to-day work, our training will show you different methods to achieve the same ends and we’ll give you the expertise to decide for yourself how you want to work.

And after one of our training courses – whether it’s training for absolute beginners or a more advanced, bespoke training course designed specifically for your needs and the needs of your company – you may well find that “I wish it could do this…” turns into “I never knew it could do that…” and “I hate the way is does that…” turns into “I’m so glad I learned this…”
